Oracle RMAN

Plan to use Oracle 11g R2 on SUSE Linux 11 r2.  For now, I'll use an external hard drive for backup.  Say, I attach the HD via a USB to the database server.

Can I use RMAN to schedule a backup that will copy the data over to the external HD (from the FRA)?  For instance, I schedule 2:00am daily, to transfer the incremental data, and 2:00am weekly, transfer the full backup copy to the external HD, etc.

Thanks to help.

Well, it should be possible but your backup will be very slow depending your database size, see this reference: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1129681

I'd think you better create the backup on a local disk and move the backup to your USB device after the backup has finished.

Q: Is the FRA sufficient to serve the purpose?

(I would like the ORACLE to first automatically back it up to the FRA, then use RAMN to transfer it to the external HD via USB.)
