Cisco 12000 GSR vs 9001 ASR

Hello Experts,

I have been given the task of evaluating Cisco's 12000 GSR's and 9001 ASR's. I know I could simply go to Cisco's website to get detail specs on each device, however, I was wondering if someone could show me where can find information that discusses the pro's and cons' of the two in plain laymens English.

It would nice if you could provide a link that provides a comparison of the two devices.

Just so you know the devices are to be deployed in carrier / telecom / ISP environment.

Once again, your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Well the biggest pro/con is that the GSR is a legacy routing platform that will not do 40G and 100G in the future, the latest GSR model can do 20Gbps per slot. The ASR9000 is the next generation routing platform for the edge/core that will scale to the higher interface speeds,  200Gbps per linecard. Both platforms can leverage modular IOS, the GSR advantage may be price if you are looking at lower interface speeds.

So it depends on what you are trying to do

Hi Harbor,

I have another question in connection with GSR 12000's - in particular the 12410. However, I thought it better to assign you the points on this question and may be you or another Expert might help out?
