Live Communications Server 2005 & Lync in same organization

We have a client who is currently running Live Communications Server 2005SP1 and are wanting to move to Lync.  I realize there is no direct migration path(Outside of LCS > OCS2007 > Lync) but they are content with setting up a brand new Lync organization/pool and rolling out to specific users, re-adding contacts, etc.  The question is, is it possible to have both installed in the same AD forest/domain, use the same SIP username and simply remove a user from LCS pool and add them to the Lync pool and set them up with the Lync client?  We would ideally like to go down this path in order to test things before rolling out the Lync client to all users.  Any feedback would be appreciated!

Cheers,

AJ

make sure one thing.
if you want to jump from LCS to Lync
make sure you adprep LCs 2005, then OCs 2007 then OCS 2007 r2 then Lync.

NEVER adprep directly from LCs 2005 to Lync. you will regret.

This only applicable if after testing they were planning to actually deploy an OCS 2007 and/or OCS 2007 R2 server in the topology.  If going directly to Lync 2010 then that is the only set of schema changes required.

The limitation is that once you deploy a set of schema extensions to the AD forest for a newer version you cannot go back and apply schema extension for a previous version that may have been skipped over.
