jumping to incorrect folder

hi guys

i have
sftp> pwd
/

sftp> cd u5
/u5

sftp> cd application
/optional/process/application   --but this is not where i want to go, i want to go to /u5/application  ('application' folder exists in u5 folder and process folder)
 


any idea why its jumping on to '/optional/process/application'

no, it still goes to the wrong folder
