Apple Mac Proxy Server - What firewall to use?
I have recently set up a Mac Proxy Server in my school which seems to be working fine. I have tied it down to only allow my clients to connect and i am working on setting up client authentication before they can connect to make it as secure as possible and prevent anyone from connecting without my permission.
I now need to setup a firewall to maintain security and protect any pupils from seeing or accessing anything inappropriate on the internet.
Can anyone recommend what firewall i can put in place?
Many thanks

Sounds good to me
ill take a look and possibly a free trial if they do one
i am very cautious as i have 400 kids and some like to type in things into google images which will bring up pornographic images etc
do you know if it will filter stuff like that?
I think most filter google results by filename and we have issues with our Local Authority Firewall where Pupil A will type in random stuff like GG into Google images and two woman completely naked are doing inappropriate things and when we reported this all we got back was the filter doesn't understand what is in the file if it is called GG its let through!!
Would you know if F-Secure will help us with cases like this?
Thanks

Hello again!
F-Secure will allow you to disable words that are not supposed to be searched. Like games, woman etc. It can block pornographical stuff that may be found on the internet. The firewall needs to be installed on the school computers as well to monitor and block the stuff you need, but the main admin console will monitor everything that people are doing on the computers.
As I know of there should be a way to block sites via Mac Proxy as well, but I am not 100% sure how to do it. On the last part I am afraid I can not help you much.

I think the problem there is i am only using this proxy for the iPads which pupils will be using so unless there is an app which will be installed on the iPads i think i am going to have to look elsewhere - i will give them a call and explain my situation and maybe they have a solution.
Our school computers are currently monitored by Smoothwall which is free open source firewall so maybe they do a mac version so i will look into that too
HUGE thanks

Thank you very much
Thank you very much
I would suggest F-Secure for Mac OS X, our clients use it and it has been a great thing to work with. There's a lot of features that you can manage and you can block their internet access etc. I am not sure if this is what you were looking for but I recommend it to everybody, because of the admin console is easy to use and easy to understand.
