macbook pro mid 2010

I have a mac-book pro mid 2010, the original mac o.s is version 10.6.3 snow leopard

the hard disk crashed, so i decided to buy another disk, 160gig Sata

i downloaded mac o.s version 10.7.4, and decided to fresh install from a dvd, but durint installation, on disk options, it can't be partition, the command button for partitioning is locked, even in the erase menu bar at mac installation window, and I can't reinstall from version 10.7.4

I've read that when the mac is a mac-book pro on mid 2010, it should used the default mac o.s version.

I'd like to hear some experts here about mac installations,
thanks

Oh, I'm sorry, it's 13inch I think, but I'll try to view that page,

and, please, I know how to erase, partition drives in mac, but the only thing I asked why I the command buttons of erase is locked, is it because that mac-book pro mid 2010 does not support version 10.7.4?

and also, the hard disk is found, at disk1(only in disk utility option), but it can't be partition or erase, so I can't reinstall a fresh copy of mac.

I downloaded 10.7.4 from torrent, but it boots and loads ok, just can't continue the installation because it can't find the disk, I'm stuck on the agreement page.

I'm stuck here:
Part Two: Installing the operating system
   1. When the Mac OS X L.I.O.N Installer screen appears, click Continue.
   2. When the license agreement appears, click Agree.

then can't continue because no disk was found, I have already formatted it with HFS(not HFS+) in the other Unit(using windows macdrive)
but, you think because of the hfs only and NOT hfs+?

thanks

I think one of these two links is my mac-book pro

ok, about you asked,
>Ok your saying it does not support 10.7.4.
No, I don't really know that
But, I've read here that 10.7 supports
http://www.everymac.com/mac-answers/os-x-lion-faq/macs-compatible-with-os-x-lion-hack-options-for-incompatible-macs.html

>So why not download 10.6.3 snow leopord and try again, post back.
Yes, I'm downloading a version like that now, But I really want the 10.7.4 to be installed

>Just so you know a new copy is 25-30 bucks.
Yes, I know it, but I'll try to view it first if it fits on my mac

thanks

>The drive needs to be formatted as HFS+, but the installation software should be able to do this.
The installation software can't

>You should get a bona fide copy of Lion, and use that to install.   I have a MBP mid-2010 and I was able to install Lion no problem and then upgrade (using App Store).

bona fide copy?
I guess I can't locate that, please give some links, maybe I can,
thanks

Did you try this link I posted above?

    Turn on the computer.
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD into the optical drive, or insert the MacBook Air Software Reinstall Drive into the USB port.
Press and hold the "C" key while the computer starts up. The computer will start up using the Install media. Alternatively, press and hold the Option key at startup to select the volume containing the installer.
If your are using a wireless mouse, a mouse icon should appear asking you to turn the mouse on so that the computer can discover it.
Select a language, then press the right arrow key.
Click the Utilities menu, the choose Disk Utility.
Select a volume to erase (usually called Macintosh HD).
    Click the Erase tab.
Click Erase... Important: This step will completely erase your hard drive. If you have installed Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp, or have multiple partitions, this procedure will erase the partition you select.
A dialog box appears asking if you want to erase the partition: click Erase.
After the partition is erased, choose Quit Disk Utility from the Disk Utility menu.

Yes, I think that's the basics of installing Mac O.S, because it's all can be seen in the window.

Do you have the original DVD with 10.6.3 or not? Downloading MacOS is illegal and you probably know that such activities are not supported by EE.

Why not just ask Apple? Or read this: http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/

You are assuming the new HDD is fully operational.   100% of drives fail.  Run hardware diagnostics before moving forward.

They lost the DVD with 10.6.3

This was sold to me as the second owner without installation DVD
