Send button sometimes does nothing when using addresses in autocomplete file

Our users are on Win7, Outlook 2010 and we use Exchange 2003 (soon to upgrade to 2008 R2). Ever since moving to Outlook 2010, a number of users have experienced an issue where they compose an email, hit the Send button, but nothing happens. I have managed to track the problem to an issue with the address saved in the user's autocomplete file. If you remove the address from the file, and type it in again manually, the email will then send. The autocomplete files were all imported from the user's 2003 Outlook NK2 file.

Anyone come across this problem before, and hence, a fix for it? Despite much googling, I have been unable to word my problem in such a way that I can find anyone else with the same issue.

Thanks

if i recall what I have read so far, the NK2 files used by previous Outlook applications are imported on first run and then renamed as NK2.OLD.

you might need to remove the hidden message that stores these cached addresses and re-import.  this page shows some reference info - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980542

to reimport, renames the file back to just <profilename>.NK2 and then run Outlook with the command switch /importNK2.

Hi IainNIX, I'm not sure that your solution applies to our situation as we didn't upgrade Outlook, we purchased new hardware installed with Win7 and Office 2010. The import was done as you set out in your third paragraph with the /importNK2 command switch after Outlook was first opened and configured (ie manually rather than automatically). If we reimport the file, won't we lose all the new addresses that have been added in? The installations were done in December last year.

Ok, thanks. So seems that there is no good solution to our problem then. I would have thought that if there was a problem with the nk2 file that we would have the issue with more than just one email address, but perhaps not. Thanks anyway
