Cannot terminal access Dell Powerconnect switch
Evening
I have inherited three Dell Powerconnect switches, which I was asked to put on my network which is running HP switches, VLANNED etc...
I managed to log into one of the switches and reset it (wish I hadn't bothered!) as now I cannot get access via the console. And thats the problem with all three, no console access is working.
I have downloaded the manual to the switches, followed all of the instructions to the letter. I have googled it to death, I have used multiple terminal emulators (Hyper terminal, Tera Terminal, Putty...) I have used a mail to femail rollover cable with gender changer, female to femail crossover, combinations of the two...............but nothing.
The cables worked fine on another HP switch which had a serial console port no issue.
The cables are fine as I have tested the pins and as stated above logged into other switches.
I access consoles on a regular basis but this one has me stumped
Anyone had the same issue?......
Thanks

What model are the switches?
For pre-5000 series switches with a DB-9 connector, it's a Female to Female null-modem cable. 9600 N-8-1 Flow control off.
For 5000 series and above switches with an RJ-45 connector, it's a standard Cisco rollover. 9600 N-8-1 Flow control off.
You should still be able to see the BIOS recovery menu during a powercycle even if the console port's been disabled in the configuration.

ASKER
Its a Dell Powerconnect 5448, which has the serial connection not the RJ-45
Is there any way I can test whether my cable (s) is suitable for the job, they have worked on other HP switches before?
