Word Documents - 64K big (65 536 bytes) or 128K

We recently had to move some files for a client from one staff members computer to another. The staff member had resigned.

Everything appeared in order. A month or so later, when the new staff memeber started using the files we noticed that a number of the files are empty.

The files that are empty are either 128K or 64K exactly. Even more wierd, is that Word/Excel opens them and there is no error. IE if they were corrupted when copying, or not copied completely, surely the file would be corrupt and word/excel would throw an error?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, xpandit.

Please post an example of each size.

Thanks,
Brian.

Thanks, xpandit, but I was looking for examples of the files themselves. A truly empty Word document is a lot smaller than 64K, so the padding in these files may provide some significant information.

Please find file attached. Also, could these be from a really old version of word possibly? And the compatibility viewer just isn't displaying them correctly?

Do you think this could be a disk issue?

Or corruption issue when moving documents?

Or could the previous staff member have scrubbed the documents to lose all data?
