domain user losing local admin after restart

I have a user who I've manually added as a local admin on an XP machine with sp3.  After a restart, the user loses local admin rights.  The computer and user accounts are in the same OU's as everyone else.  I've tried unjoining from the domain, renaming the computer, and joining back.  I've looked at group policy and there are no restricted groups.  Maybe there's something else there I'm not seeing?  As far as I know, it's just this one user.

You have any security software on the computer that may be erasing changes\blocking changes once you reboot?

there's no security software other than symantec endpoint protection.  I'll force a group policy update while the user is logged in to see if I can reproduce it.  Thanks for the ideas.  I will update this thread tomorrow.

to update:  i ran gpresult, and didn't see any policy other than default domain policy applied.  The machine did have a static IP set, which was wrong.  I switched to DHCP, refreshed, and ran gpupdate /force.  The account stayed in the admin group.  I restarted, and was not able to reproduce the issue again.  I'll update again after monitoring a couple of days, but right now, it's good.
