HP Elitebook 8540w trackpad

Hello Experts,

My daughter was playing on my laptop while I was out of the room for a few minutes. Now the trackpad and the other mouse buttons are not working. I did verify that the trackpad light was on and I restarted and shutdown the laptop multiple times but no luck.

The OS is windows 7 pro x64.

Please help!!! Also, the mouse works on the trackpad part when I'm at the login screen but once I enter into windows it does not work.

Take a look a accessibility settings to see if they were turned on. Pressing the same key 3 or 4 times will attempt to turn these settings on. Maybe something in there disables the mouse.

Consider the possibility that she banged on the keyboard. Children do that. So it possible the keyboard is damaged.

What option should I look for under accessibility?

Also, keyboard is fine and working fine. My guess is that it somehow disabled mouse in OS. It works fine at login screen. But once you login the mouse on the trackpad stops working.

Hi

I had a similar issue in the past.
have a look here :Link

On the pictures there is a section that says disable/enable/
If disabled just select "enable".
Hopefully this will fix the problem, otherwise it might be hardware as pointed out by thinkpads_user.
