10-gigs ports

I am new to the 10-gigs port business so I am just wondering if you can educate me on it. I currently use 1-gig port with fiber and Ethernet cables. Now if I move to a 10-gigs ports, can I still use the 5e ethernet cable? or do I have to go with single mode fiber. I am looking at either to get a Cisco 4900M or 4500X. Thanks

there are multiple options for 10g connectivity depending on what you want to connect to what and what the line cards are.

some of them are considerably more expensive than others

I would look into getting CNA cards and cables.
