exFAT format?
I am trying to reformat a 320gb drive to FAT16 or FAT32.    The reason why is that I need it readable for a DVD player.  The DVD player only supports FAT16/32.  I am using Windows 7 64bit

The file current system on the portable drive is NTFS.  When I right-click the dive and attempt to reformat, I receive only the default NTFS or exFAT as choices.  I di not know much about the exFAT file system... is it used as a replacement for FAT16/32?User generated image

exFAT is different and it's quite possible it won't be supported by your DVD Player.  There are tools that should allow you to format it FAT32.  Check out Swiss Knife (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/SwissKnife.shtml) (it should work on Win7).

Keep in mind one of the most severe limits of FAT32 is the 4 GB file size limit - if you're attaching this to a DVD player I would assume you want to play videos.  Some videos COULD be larger than 4 GB and those files simply will not copy to a FAT32 drive.  exFAT solves that problem, but as I said, it's not the same as FAT32 and the DVD player may not read it (you can always try and see what happens.

Thanks for the information. The Swiss Knife program would not install correctly under Windows 7 64 bit.  Is there another simple program that I could try?
