Windows 7 search not working

Some Windows 7 clients are no longer able to recursively search mapped network drives from Windows Explorer where the had been able to previously. The clients are mapped to a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with  Z: mapped to \\server\data.

The client is trying to recursively search from   folders like Z:\subfolder\subfolder6.

If the clients select one of the subfolders, like Z:\subfolder\subfolder6\subfolder1\, it will recursively search that folder and below.

The permissions haven't changed at any level of the tree.

As I understand, only a few clients are having this issue.

Please advise.

When you use search on a 2003 server, it has a filesystem cache which is queried by the client.  When that is exhausted, the result is very slow searches or hangs.
Read this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/increase-the-filesystem-memory-cache-size-in-vista/  (it's also for 2K3)
