I need to download and view some file types from a business partner that are .DXZ files.

Do you mean DXZ? or DXF or DX
DXZ are known to used by backdoor trojans.

Rename it to *.DXF and see if it opens in Autodesk DWG TrueView software:

Yes, agreed, allow me to rephrase my suggestion.  Save the File to the hard drive, scan it for viruses, then rename it changing the extension to  .DXF

Download and install the Autodesk viewer I linked to, then use the appropriate method to open the file from within the program (eg. File menu > Open > browse for file) rather than double-clicking on it.

Better still, ask the business partner what file was sent and what the extension was.  Presumably it is a technical drawing of some kind given the "CAD & Architecture Software" question tag.  If they confirm that they sent a *.DXZ file, then they should be able to explain how they intended that you open the file.  This is, of course, if they themselves created and saved the file.  The extension *.DXB for example, is just the binary equivalent of a DXF which is more compact, so perhaps DXZ is another variant of a drawing format rather than a "file extension (that) is known to be used by some trojan viruses".
This is an AutoCAD file that may be very old version 8 or 9 days.  There was a compression program called DMZ that made zip files.  It could also be a .dwg file with the extension changed (I have seen that before).  Try this:

1) Open the file (make a copy) with a text editor (like notepad), look at the first six digits if "AC####" the AC indicates a dwg file format and the four numbers vary by version.  EXIT THE FILE WITHOUT SAVING TO KEEP IT AS IS.  Rename the extension to .dwg and see if it opens with AutoCAD, it should.

2) if (1) doesn't work then try this, make a winzip folder - drag and drop the file into the zip folder.  Then, drag and drop the file from the winzip folder back into explorer and that should decompress it.

WARNING: Work with a copy so you don't damage the original file.
