The Action could not be completed - Outlook 2003

Hi All,

Hope you can help. I have an outlook 2003 client who is suddenly no longer able to access their exchange mailbox. The error states: "The action could not be completed. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
It is connecting to SBS2003 exchange. The same mailbox works on another PC and other mailboxes give the same message on this machine.
I have run a repair on office and I have disabled TCP/IP, rebooted and then re-enabled. I have deleted all outlook profiles and tried to set them up from scratch but get the error when clicking on 'check names'.
When I run outlook.exe /rpcdiag it does not list any servers.
I am able to ping the server by name and IP. Also tried adding the exchange server by IP address.

Running on Windows XP workstation.

Hi There,

Could you try to remove the computerfrom the domain, reboot the computer and add it back to the domain. See if that solves the problem please.

Thanks for that Exchange_geek. As a thought from your post I decided to do a complete virus scan first before disabling them and found a number of infections. After these were cleared outlook was able to connect again.
Scanned with Trend Micro and Malwarebytes.
