Windows 2000 and 2008 Servers Network Stopping

Hi

I have the following setup

1 x IBM x226 with 8GB 146GB U320 SCSI with VMware ESXi 4,1 installed and one VM running on it - Windows 2000 Server SP4

I then have a X3400 DC Xeon 1,.86 with 2 x 74GB SAS, 10GB with ESXi 5.1 running and two VM - Windows 2008 Server R2

The 2000 Server is one that we are upgrading and has been running as a TS for some years now no problem and is a DC

The 2008 Server was Built for a new TS and is a Member server to the 2000 DC

Problem is:

All seems ok but when  the Users logged onto the 2008 TS, which is only 3 at this stage, when every they try to pull Data from the 2000 Server, everything becomes non responsive and then the 2000 Server appears to stop as well and everything gives up, most times we need to do a reboot on the 2000 server to get it back going.

There is a Dumb 100mb Netgear Switch and a Dumb Linksys Switch in the middle of all this that maybe i was thinking might be the problem but.......

I am at a little bit of a loss, not much in the Event log to say anything about that is going on

Urgent Help required

Thanks Adam

I was using vmxnet3 in 2008 server changed it back to e1000 during testing

I am using AMD PCNet in W2000 Server

Yes at various times CPU has been going high on 2000 Server, Disk is sort of up and down network i havent looked at as yet

Firmware i am going to have to check on

Adam
Just installed a Gb Switch in which i both servers are now connected to

Seems a little better but still hanging when accessing data from the windows 2000 Server from the w2k8 TS

I also changed the Ethernet adapter on the windows 2000 server from Flexible to e1000 just in case it was the 2000 server casuing the problem rather then the 2008 server, it has the VMXNET3 back on

Just on a side issue for windows 2000 server VM which is better Flexible or e1000

Any help really appreciated

Thanks Adam
