E1014 Failed to Format, Media not in Place

Dear SME,

I am seeing this error "E1014 failed to Format, Media not in Place" on several backup devices.  I am currently using DAT 72x, DAT320... I understand they are EOL... But, still working... :).

Can you suggest some Troubleshooting steps to investigate this issue and resolve it...

This all started a couple of months ago with an E1145 Media write error during a backup.  I changed tapes and since that error I get the E1014.  I have rebooted the server, cleaned the drive and used new tapes but nothing works.  I am using ARCserve 9.0 all the patches and drives are up-date.

Your suggestion is welcome...

Thanks

The dive is either out of alignment or has failed.  Get a replacement, they are pretty cheap now.

Hi Rick, Thanks for suggestion...  Can you give some step to confirm this "Alignment or has Failed" once i confirm it via troubleshooting step... then i can go for a replacement...  I am currently in Hong Kong... Thanks
The step to verify it is to swap it out.  I have been working with backups since 1986 on PCs and servers and have used every version of Backup Exec and Arcserve that ever existed.I started doing Netware when it was just Netware, and got my CNEs up to, but not including 6.  From experiencing the same issue you are having, I know the drive is the problem.
