Event ID 8193 — Volume Shadow Copy Service Operations

Check that the VSS service is enabled

To check that the VSS service is enabled and running.
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
In the results pane, double-click Volume Shadow Copy.
Ensure that Startup type is set to Manual.
    Click OK.

Take a backup of the registry first

Open registry editor and go down to the following location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Check the entries for .bak against all the profiles - remove ".bak" by editing the profile.

Shut registry editor

And your issue would be solved.

Volume Shadow Service is enabled and works normally with robocopy and all Windows Server 2008 Backups (ie. they are recoverable).

Thanks Exchange Geek,

I've made this change and will monitor the backup tonight to see if it still occurs.

Implemented the change and the errors didn't appear in last night's backup.

Thanks for your help.
