I have a client that has a Vista Home machine connected via VPN to HQ.  We need to offline sync a folder from the Server 2008.  It does not show up in a sync partnership options, how can I make it sync offline files/folders?

Syncing over VPN can be dicey at any time because of the general slowness of VPN.

What can work is SyncBack Pro ( It comes free and paid and the files on each end are local to the particular machine (Vista and Server 2008). SyncBack synchronizes between the two file sets.

It is certainly worth a look. I have used it for years to sync between my laptop and servers and between my laptop and desktop. ... Thinkpads_User

You need to upgrade the OS from Vista Home to Windows 7 Professional as the notebook has to be joint to the domain before you can make any sync partnership for offline folders.

Offline folders can only be done if the computer is joint to a domain network.
