Autolicstr file

Hi

I am trying to locate the autolicstr file on my SBS 2003 server. I have been advised to use this file to solve a licence issue with my OS.

I am unable to locate this file is it generated by initiating a service or procedure.

many Thanks in advance.

See http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2007/09/sbs-lost-cal-recovery-or-reset-cal.html

if that fails i would contact Microsoft licencing. Below is a link to their contact numbers worldwide.

Hi

Thanks for your response. My problem is I dont appear to have the autolicstr.cpa file so am unable to copy and rename it. Is there any other way to recover the missing CALS as the IT manager left recently under a cloud and has not advised on the original location of the licences.

Thanks Paul R

restart the licence logging service.
go into "Licensing" in the server management console.
This should recreate the files in %windir%\system32 (usually c:\windows\system32)

if this fails then do a full search of your drives for *.cpa

All else fails
Then call microsoft.

Hi

I resolved the issue by restoring a previous drive image onto a old server and recovering the then working licstr.cpa file. I then used this file in place of the corrupt one restarted the licence logging service and all is working.

Thanks for your speedy response.
