VS2010 Open port in firewall

I need to open a port in the firewall for a vb.net project.  If I build the project then I can simple add an exception to it in the firewall and it listens on the tcp port which is open.
But from within VS I cannot get the port to open in the firewall even tho I have added it as a inbound/outbound rule.

Do you mean port is open but when program is run from VS then it is not able to listen on that port but it works when run directly?

Yes, if i build the app and run the exe then i can add an exception to the firewall but if I run in debugging mode the port will not open which makes debugging hard unless I turn off the firewall

Its because when you run the exe directly, its called yourprogramname.exe but when you run it from VS, its called yourprogramname.vshost.exe so you need to add a rule for that name.

Yep, rule is there for in/out for the app.vshost.exe under bin/debug but still it blocks it.

And app is running in debug mode not release mode right?

Don't worry about it, I can live without the Windows firewall, the router's firewall is running fine and letting the connection thru. Maybe you have some ideas on this
