upload in sharepoint

if i'm logined to sharepoint site and upload in document center, will that document only visible under me or will that be visible for everyone? how do i set that up so that it is only visible by me and let me say share this document to certain people.? thanks

Depends how the security on the library is setup. You need to go into the library Settings, and then Permissions. You need to Stop inheriting permissions. Then add only your self and anyone else you want to see the documents. See attached. I am also assuming you have 2010, but the same appies to 2007.

You can set the library to only allow viewing and editing for the document author.
You could then share a particular document by selecting it and clicking send a link to this document
