making front end lync server as edge server

I have a client who need to take out their second lync server 2010, they have two in total, apart from online lync chat software, they dont want to use this for anything else.
so what should i do to take out second lync server out, which is edge server.
i have lots of links on how to install lync and how to install edge server, but i have no information on if i want to take down the second lync server which is edge server and make the first server an edge server, what should i do?

to remove an edge server, just delete it from the topology in topology builder, publish and then run enable-CsComputer on edge server.
But why server 1 as edge ? Removing lync front end from server 1 would render an edge server useless.

Front end and edge can and should under no circumstances be collocated

edge is the second server, and they want to decommission the second server, because nothing is running on it.

if i will just delete the second server, how would the first server will take the edge server role by itself?

also can you please tell me the steps which i have to follow to remove the edge server and assign it to first server?

you have to delete the second server from edge server in topology builder, and assign first server to the edge role.
Is there any other Lync services running on first server?
What is you front end server?

To delete:
start topology builder
find edge server
delete edge server
publish topology
run enable-CsComputer in Lync Management Shell on second server

to add first server as edge server; follow steps in this doc - as it is quite som work:

An edge server cannot run independently. A front end server is required, and as previously mentioned, you cannot collocate those roles. Thus, you cannot do what you want. A lync deployment with an edge server is a MINIMUM two server configuration.

Thanks for that, can you please also send me a link, where it will provide information that minimum requirement for lync is two servers. i just need to show it to client.
thanks

This will cover it.

Under the central site topologies section, the first sentence clearly states that a lync deployment requires a central site. And a central site must have a front-e d pool or standard server filling the front-end role.

In the bullet point just a few paragraphs down talking about edge servers, it also clearly states that an edge server cannot be collocated.

So while the document doesn't specifically call out two servers, it can be deduced by these two facts.
