Filter connection between Excel and SQL Server

I was wondering,
I read a SQL Server table using EXCEL 2007's Get External Data function.
The table is getting larger and larger in SQL Server.
Is there a way to filter the result set from SQL Server PRIOR to populating EXCEL?
