Since installing KB2596911 on SBS 2008 we can no longer access companyweb.

When attempting to browse to http://companyweb or attempting to access the Central Administration console we get the error "Cannot connect to the configuration database."

We have tried running the PSCONFIG command as you usually would after a Sharepoint update but this fails at step 1 stating that it cannot detect if this server is part of the farm or not.

Thanks in advance.

Hi RobWill. So would you suggest it will be a case of waiting for Microsoft to come up with something?

Have browse the internet for the past few hours pretty sure that site seemed familiar. Cannot find anything that helps!

Majority of our clients don't use companyweb however the only one affected does. Bad luck I guess.

Did you try downloading manually and installing with elivated privlages as outlined in the article?  The link within the articile has another, much more complex option that seems to work for many.

Yes but it states that its already installed. I assumed uninstalling the update would make things worse too.

I would just install 'over-top' without uninstalling.

I cant because it states the update is already installed. Unless I need to use command line switches?

Best bet then is to try the suggestions in the TechNet forum link.  I haven't seen any updates from Microsoft on this issue and it has been a problem for a while.

Problem was resolved by Microsoft FOC in the end. Because the update caused the issue they agreed to rebuild companyweb at no cost.

Thanks to RobWill for his help.

Thanks kackland.  Glad to hear you have been able to resolve.  I am surprised Microsoft has not addressed this by now as it is fairly common.
Cheers!
