Desktop experience feature over Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - Failure configuring
Hi,
I am testing a migration from SBS 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1 with Exchange 2010.
I am now at the point of installing Exchange 2010, but a prerequisite feature fails at the configuring step (after reboot).
I tried a clean boot, windows update, servermanager.log doesn't tell me much, ink feature prerequisite installed... I uninstalled Symantec Endpoint. Went through almost every possible online solutions, now I am stuck...
Any hint, experts ?

I install the feature (Desktop Experience) through the server manager, it says it is installed successfully, but needs a reboot.
But when it tries to configure it after booting, it says "failure configuring windows features reverting changes".
I can't find the specific error in servermanager.log, nor in cbs.log, nor in Event Viewer.

Yes, the reason is that it is a requirement for exchange 2010.
I will check those resources and get back to you about them.
Thanks,

1) Tried the clean boot option, didn't work
2) Second resource is not exactly my problem, I was able to install other features.
It is also proposing a clean boot more detailed that I also tried without success.
I don't think the SUR would change something, I was able to update the server through windows update (fully patched as of now), but I will give it a try.

System Update Readiness tool is ran from windows update when it detects a problem that it can solve. There is no CheckSUR.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS (Note that there is a cbs.log that is 170 Mb !! There has to be something interesting in there, but I didn't find anything when I looked, anything particular I could ctrl+f ?)
Is there some AV .... can try stopping and then try installing the feature ?

Stopped the AV through the clean boot, all services were disabled, the problem persists.
I also went farther and uninstalled the AV, same conclusion.
Thanks for your help,

Thanks for your help,
After you uninstalled AV did you restart the server and then try ?

There are several CMI error in cbs.log, anything I should worry about ?

Hm, I went back to Exchange installation, and tried ending the installation without the Unified Messaging role. We won't be using this anymore since it would mean upgrading our Cisco infra too. And guess what ? Desktop Experience doesn't need to be installed to complete the installation. It was probably because of the WAV files in Unified Messaging that DE was needed.
I hope it fixes my problem...
