Install isql with informix?

Good day experts

I previously installed IBM Informix Dynamc Server, Version 11.50.FC8 under Linux SLES 10 SP2.

Users are asking for a utility called isql to create forms in that server. I'm new to informix, so I really don't know what they're referring to. I did a search on every fs to look if there was any isql command in the informix installation directory but couldn't find it.

I looked up some docs and now I know this is a utility for doing some Interactive SQL statements from the command line, including the creation of forms.

I also read that dbaccess does NOT support report or forms (I guess that's why they're needing isql)...Also that another option to generate reports is the smformbld command, but couldn't find that either on my server.

The question is...how do I get this installed and configured (isql) on my server? Is this part of the IBM IDS package installation or is this utility downloaded from a third party?

Thanks in advance

Formerly, isql was just another product that had to be installed just like other stuff like the backend, 4gl runtime/development, etc ...

Hi Gerry-G

So I'm assuming that isql isn't included in the IBM Informix Dynamic Server installation package...where do I get it? is it free or does it require any license? I also tried searching it in my yast repositories but couldn't find it there either :S!

Thanks in advance

@Gerry-G

Thanks for the info! indeed, it seems that the informix suite is "the" utility for creating forms "...The Informix SQL suite includes a schema editor, menu builder, SQL editor, forms builder, and report writer..." I'll check if this is a license-based utility or not, meanwhile I'll close this thread...and if I find anything else, I'll open a new question :P

Thanks a lot Gerry-G
