VMWare, Networking

Previously I have configured the VMWare networking by

... selecting the host and adding port groups

Then I went to the VM->Edit Settings and added the appropriate port group

Open in new window

However, now that I am in the VM, I see where I can go to the following path

VM->Edit Seetings->Network Adapter 1->Add Ehternet adapter

Then I can select a Connection and adapter

What does this method do that the previous method does not.  What does this actually do ?

    Accepted Solution

    The first method is adding Network Interfaces and Configuring virtual switches for the HOST. Configuring Port Groups which Virtual Machine Guests can use.

    The second question is adding Network Interfaces to the Guest VM, and selecting which Portgroups they can use, which may involve using different vSwitches.
