How to set up an autonomous domain within another domain

Hi EE,

We have a WAN network in the 10.x.x.x range. It is a single domain. Lets call it ""

I want to create another domain for testing purposes. I want this domain (lets call it "") to be in the 172.16.x.x range but resides in

I want, to be totally isolated from The only relationship it has with is that it uses its hardware/networking resources such as SAN resources, ESXi farm to create hosts and its switching infrastructure to route traffic. As far as is concerned, is just the internet.

The reason I want this setup is to set an environment for testing/training that is isolated and can be a test case for prod later on.

Any help, pointers or direction will be much appreciated.

    Accepted Solution

Setup as a child domain of  Establish a 1 way trust from to  This will allow to access resources, but accounts won't be able to log in to (Main accounts should be able to log in to

Access of teh SAN shouldn't have any domain dependencies (unless you're referring to file shares on servers in the domain).  If you're mapping LUN's then this wouldn't have a Domain requirement.

Setup DNS Forwards in so that it can find and vice versa.  It'll make life easier and ensure replication.

When you're all done and don't need anymore, you can DCPromo it out of the domain and say "This is the last domain controller in the domain" and will disappear.
