Excel 2010 - Merging workbooks error message

I have several workbooks that are identical except for a blank column which is populated by phone extensions.  I am trying to merge these workbooks into my  workbook and I get the following error message.  How can I troubleshoot this?

Hi, brothertruffle880.

Unless these Workbooks started life as copies of a shared workbook (plus some other constraints) then you may not use "Merge and Compare" on them.

Are they shared?

Thanks,
Brian.

ASKER

They're all shared.  Yes.
brothertruffle880,

Thanks. The next steps...
(1) Are they copies of the same, original, shared file?
(2) Have they kept their change history since they were coped?

Thanks,
Brian.
They are copies of the same original file.
I don't know if the changes history has been kept

Thanks.  It was the history.  All fixed.
