apache file listing from a afp server

we have a departmental web site running on apache server. let's say the web site address is www.myschool.com

recently a group made a request about listing some of the files they share through afp server on their mac machines.

basically, if one enters www.myschool.com/groupA in a browser, this should somehow go to the afp server and display files under a specific folder.

apache proxy can channel requests to another web site and maintaining the url.

should proxy be used here?

I can enable directory listing in one specific subfolder on the apache server for this purpose, would this be ok in terms of security? i don't want to modify the apache config file everytime some academics want to list some files through the school web site. Is directory listing on one subfolder acceptable?

Many thanks,

no, except the server where apache is running has no direct access to that filesystem

no if you set proper permissions with Allow and Deny directive, probably you also want Basic/Digest authentication

> Is directory listing on one subfolder acceptable
yes, make a sub folder and restrict access to that folder (see above), then enable accesss to each subfoder (for departments) there again
