ASP.net Table Formating

OK this seem pretty easy, but I can't figure it out so I've turned to the Experts!

I want to put a Table lets say 500px and the first row is also 500px with would have a title in that row.  Then the second row would be also 500px, but split into to cells each being 250px to equal the 500px row.  When I do this the first row and my title doesn't center.

Here is an example of what I'm trying to accomplish:
                           Select Dates
Beginning Date                       Ending Date
Textbox                                   TextBox

How can I acomplish this?
Thanks,
Mark

Here you go...

<table style="width:500px">
  <tr>
    <td colspan="2" style="text-align:center">Select Dates</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td style="width:250px">Beginning Date </td>
    <td style="width:250px"> Ending Date</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td>Textbox  </td>
    <td> TextBox </td>
  </tr>
</table>

Open in new window

Thanks,
