ASP URL variable stored in path

Mobile best practice says to not use "URL Variables" anymore, for example:

mysite.com/folder/?var=1234

Should look like:

mysite.com/folder/1234/

How do you do this with Classic ASP. I can't seem to figure out a logical way.

Thanks.

Thanks, this is the same information I found. I guess it is the best option but I don't like the idea of using 404 rewrite, I think it will upset the page reporting in Google Analytics you're not going directly from one page to another, instead you're bouncing off this server error page.
Those answers have nothing to do with 404 rewrite, and they are both perfectly SEO friendly.
