Auto Reply with a Distribution List

Hi all,

I need that any email that receives a Distribution List be replied with an specified email that is always the same.

I have an Exchange 2007, and I couldn't do it with transport rules, I also tried to create a mailbox that I've added to that distribution list and set the out of the office but this is not sent when the email comes to the distribution list. The only way that i found is to set a rule for this account but if i close the outlook it doesn't work.

Could you give me a hand with this?

Thanks in advance,
Emiliano

You can create a Auto reply from Server using Outlook rule ...

- Rancy
Here is what i tested and it worked like a charm using server-side Automated Replies.

Go to this member OL -

Go to his OL - tools - Rules and Alerts

Click New Rules - Select Start from a blank rule - check messages when they arrive - click on Next - select "with specific words in message header" - select the highlight option for "specific word" and type the DL Email address - click Next - Select "have server reply using a specific message - OL will open a new composed message for you - type your auto reply message - click Finish - DO NOT SELECT FOR MESSAGES IN INBOX option.

Once done, server would send auto replies only for the emails that are sent to the DL address you want to -  AND best part OL doesn't need to be online for this AND no email is rejected - all of them gets delivered to his mailbox;)

It is purely automated, also ensure that no other mailbox is part of this DL.

Thanks, it's seems that this should work, but it doesn't send  the autoreply mail, i should set something when i compose the autoreply email?

The rule seems to be working because at the end I've specified to delete the email and this is done.

Echange Geek, what do you mean with "also ensure that no other mailbox is part of this DL"?, i have like 5 mailbox in this DL, that's must be like that.

Regards.-

You also have to enable "Send out of office messages to originator" option on the distribution group

Set-DistributionGroup -Identity "Group Name" -SendOofMessageToOriginatorEnabled:$True
