nslookup question

Hi,
In the Win 2008 controller, i typed nslookup four times, anyone can give me an explanation ? the iP address 192.168.0.200, DNS is 192.168.0.200

why 1 and 2 are not right, but why 3 and 4 look like right

1-----------
C:\Users\administrator>nslookup
Default Server:  UnKnown
Address:  ::1

2---------------
C:\Users\administrator>nslookup
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
Default Server:  UnKnown
Address:  ::1
>

3----------------
> abc.net
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  ::1

Name:    abc.net
Addresses:  2002:6400:3::6400:3
          192.168.0.200
          192.168.2.1
          100.0.0.1
          100.0.0.3

4-----------------

Server:  UnKnown
Address:  ::1

In 1 and 2 nslookup uses IPv6 to resolve the DNS server ip address.

try to disable IPv6 to get rid of this issue:

from the NIC properties uncheck ipv6 then add the following reg key:

reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters /v DisabledComponents /t REG_DWORD /d 0xff /f

It's great. Thank you! i am curious about why it is related with IPV6 ? and what's the reg key for ?

because ::1 is the loop back address in IPv6. like 127.0.0.1 in IPv4.

the registry key is for disabling ipv6.

I am curious about this: if ipv6 is not disabled in this case, what function else does it affect in addition to nslookup function?
