wierd nano error

I have been recently having a problem with nano.

When I backspace sometimes suddently the cursor moves like 5 spaces back... but it is not actually there, if you continue to edit and then save, and reopen you can see that the cursor was really where you wold expect it to be.  It was just displaying wrong.

Any ideas?

might not be nano, might be a screen TERM setting or the terminal emulator you may be using, especially if you resized the screen.
