Please provide more information on the procedure to Backup and Restore Solaris 10 OS File system using HP Data Protector 6.1/6.2 for 24x7 production environment.

is the root drive ZFS based, or UFS-based?

hi,
those that boot from SAN, its ZFS and others are UFS.

For the zfs systems, do a snapshot of the root pool and then backup the snapshot.  
here is a link that says how to use ufsdump to backup the root pool of a ufs file system
