How to delete hotmail contacts

I have a Hotmail account I tried to link with my Outlook.
I disconnected the link because I was getting duplicate contacts in both hotmail & Outlook.
I can't delete my hotmail contacts before or even after I disconnected the link.
I click in the box next to the Hotmail contact, then click on delete, and they still don't go away.
I'm wondering if the link is still there - my Outlook is fine now.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

you have to do this via the browser.. logon to live.com and delete the contacts from there.

ASKER

I tried that and it says "Can't delete completely"
Also says: "Some of this contact's info comes from another service. You'll need to delete the contact there to keep it from showing up here."
The "other" service is shown as Google, but I don't want Google connected either - I may have connected it before, but I believe it is NOT connected now.
I just went into my Google account and deleted every contact - NO PROBLEM there, but I still get this error message in Hotmail.
Did you try creating a new Outlook profile ?

I don't want to create an outlook profile because I don't want to link my outlook anymore.
I just want a clean list of Hotmail contacts.
I don't believe this will help me to delete my existing list of duplicate contacts.
Ohk .... then let me ask you this .... you have deplicate contacts in Outlook and you just want to keep single in Outlook .... am i right ?

- Rancy
I've already cleaned up my Outlook contacts.
It took me hours to do this - that's why I disconnected the link.
Last time I did NOT disconnect and all my Hotmail contacts transferred back to Outlook.
I now have disconnected ALL my other account links to Hotmail.
I can delete or change all my contacts in any other account - no success with Hotmail contacts.
I really don't want to lose my Hotmail account.
I just want to start my Hotmail contacts clean!
Hi tcexperts77 Hotmail is really Obsolete, it could be that an update happened and as always includes your settings and accounts and contacts
The only way you could get duplicates in your contacts is by using a different spelt name.
And that then is not technically a duplicate.
Windows Live is associated with Hotmail>Windows Live Hotmail.
It may be that these contacts have a different version of messenger so they hold a hook over your contacts.
Try add them to blocked list
With your Hotmail account (chat) comes the Hotmail Email client as well. Hotmail.com
This has been replaced with
The latest in the line  now called Outlook.

Have you logged onto Hotmail Email and deleted your contacts from there?
Can you still access the Actual Hotmail.com?
I cant it opens to here

How to Clean up duplicate Contacts from Your Hotmail Account
Deleting duplicate contacts from hotmail account
1.Sign into Windows live hotmail with your ID and password , click People .
2.Now click Manage at the top of the page and from the drop down menu click Clean up contacts and click Clean up duplicate contacts .
3.Windows live hotmail shows list of duplicate contacts if found , you can delete them by selecting a name or you can merge that contact by clicking Merge

Once you log on to Outlook your old Hotmail.com should become obsolete mine did, but the New Outlook gives you choices to include or remove contacts..
You can still check through E-buddy as another option.

Hope it helps

Wow that's a lot
It's like a cancer, spreading tendralls
Everything is linked from your Google Account if you have and use Youtube and then
the tendralls spread to Twitter and Facebook through numerous other web browsers
and mail accounts.
It may not be possible to wipe it all out.
As you may know you can never fully delete your Facebook either.

Sorry I am out of any other ideas other than Google Account.

Google has been criticized for the way they have handled user privacy, so they have taken quite a few steps to ensure peace of mind for their users. One of them was the launch of Google Dashboard, which lets you see in one view what data is being stored by Google for the various services you use.

You may find this a bit interesting and amusing when this guys approaches Microsoft with the same question as yours or similar. Does make me feel we are not alone lol,
and how daunting and frustrating it is.

ALL I WANT TO DO IS DELETE EVERY CONTACT IN MY MSN MAIL ACCOUNT IN ONE SHOT AND I CAN"T DO IT!!
What gets me is I turned OFF the link from my Hotmail to EVERYTHING ELSE.
If Hotmail is not looking for anything, why can't it just let me delete everything?
I have asked this question in the Hotmail forum - no answer yet.
I will let you know when I find out.
If Hotmail is not looking for anything, why can't it just let me delete everything? - Maybe some information or cache is there .... did you try with "Outlook /safe" (Safe mode)

I've tried it on 2 other PCs.
So you mean to say that the issue was the same on other machines as well ?
yes
I have tried it on 2 other computers now.
Nobody provided any good solution.  I was able to fix it partially
