Clear background

I need to convert a color logo to gray logo. I was able covert it by using Photoshop. But it also covert the background of logo to gray too. How can I make the background clear, so only logo is gray?

    Start over.  
    1) save the file as a photoshop psd file
    2) Mak ea duplicate layer
    3) hide the original layer
    4) convert the new layer to grayscale as you have already done.  At this point you should still see the the image  they way you want.
    5) Save the image as ether gif or png if you will use it for the web or as tiff or eps if you will use it for print.

    If the background is also turning gray, then your background was a non-gray color before you made the conversion. Do you wish to convert the logo to gray and keep the original background color? or do you wish the background color to be white or transparent?

    It would help if you attached a copy of the logo.

    Maybe if you put a dotted line around the parts you wish to convert to greyscale using either the selection tool or the magic wand then do the same for the background
    you could copy that out as a new layer then convert to grey scale
