User Online Pop Up

Hi,

I'm looking for some direction/sample code on the below:
when a user comes online this users profile image appears as "online" on all other users pages without them having to refresh their page

we using .net versioin 4, and sql 2008

You can use jquery to make a AJAX call to a web method in your website/page.

The web method will return the list of all active users  (JSON object)
then on JS you can compare your list with the current browser list and make the required update.

Only a little appointment at mas_oz2003 answer:

You'll also need to make your call to the server periodically to obtain the data. Otherwise an user could connect and the rest won't see him connected until your code executes again on their clients. So you'll need to use a Javascript TimeOut to repeat the call to server periodically. Keep an eye on performance when you stablish the period.
