Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server  slow logon

Posted on 2012-08-20
Last Modified: 2012-08-25
When logging on to the server the logon times take roughly 3minutes.

The event viewer displays an error: The winlogon notificatino subscriber <GPClient> took 180 seconds to handle the notification event (startShell).

I am confused to what is causing the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

any drive mapping printer mapping ?

    Author Comment

    Yes both.

These mapping worked fine on Thursday and there are no errors regarding logons in event viewer earlier before 18/8 .

Software was installed on the server this day by a 3rd party company. I called them to ask if the install makes any changes to the user profiles. They advised the application did not make any changes.

    Accepted Solution

    Issue resolved.

I disabled “Run logon scripts synchronously”  via regedit.

Resolution found using google search containing event id and error message.
