Recover from operating system crash- Postgres

Hi Experts,
I get a message that says "BOOTMGR is missing" when trying to startup a machine.  I want to format the disk - but I need to get the Postgres database on it before doing so.  What can I do to boot up the machine with a CD and get access to the data?  I'll have to run pgdump on the database.....

Thanks!
Mike

you can boot from a bootable knoppix, or windows cd - and copy your data
