Not able to finish "New Exchange Certificate" in Exchange 2010 due to no *.req file to import

Dear all, I am not able to finish the "New Exchange Certificate" I don't see the file that I created. I see as a notepad when I go to the Certificate request file path not a .req file. Some how the file extension got messed up (I think). How do I go by fixing this?
