Error 1053>>Fax Server 2003

I tried to download .net framework1 sp1, but I was unable to download it.  It gave me an error "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program  to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."  I see .net framework 1.  The suggestion for the error 1053 seems to be for a Exchange Server and to recover emails.  I am using Server 2003 and added the role of FAX Server.  Still unable to start the service due to the same error as described above.  It just times out.  There is no shortage on space.  There was a power outtage and it just stopped working when the system reboot.  When clicking on any service, I get a error 54 unspecifiec.  Please see the attached slide of that error.  Also, this is IE 7,  I will be upgrading this right now...

First of all we do not see the attached slide,
Secondly, which patch were you applying - what are the details of it?
Thirdly, what are you trying to achieve here? Is it to apply the patch OR start Fax service?
If if is the latter, what is the error you get in application log - please paste the details, so we could help you.
Lastly, please provide list of applications that are working on this box with details - and windows version /Service packs etc.

Regards,

Update the server with all current service packs and restart the server.  When you restart the server, you will be able to start the fax services as normal.

Because it worked.  It was driving me insane but I just kept hammering away until I fixed it.
