I've got a user who is using the task function within Outlook to send out tasks to people and as they work on them she gets replies back and ultimately the completion notice. It is working great with everyone except one user. They are in an SBS 2003 environment, the person assigning the tasks is running Outlook 2007. The person receiving the tasks and sending them back is running Outlook 2010. We have another user on the network who is running the exact same version of Outlook but they have no issues with sending/receiving tasks.

We can't do anything with the tasks once they are back in the offending the person's inbox, they cannot be moved, deleted, there are no meaningful properties, and pretty much just sit there like an eye sore. If you try to do anything to the task in her inbox it says "The operation failed. An object could not be found." I can however attach it as an Outlook item in an email but that is about it. The tasks open fine on my computer in Outlook 2010.

I've tried recreating the Outlook profile on the computer that cannot delete the tasks with no luck. There are no errors or anything on the server or the workstation in the event log. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Seems to be a mailbox level corruption....so can try few things

1. Move mailbox to another Database if we have an option.
2. Take data into PST and create a new mailbox (customization for mailbox will be lost).

Hi,

Outlook 32 bit or 64bit?

Couple of thoughts

1 - can the task be edited / responded to in the web console?
2 - Have you tried having either of the Outlook 2010 users user the other user's PC and have them respond to a task.
If the user with the 'good' outlook has the same problem on the 'bad' pc then it's the outlook install
If the 'Bad' user has the same problem on the 'good' PC and in webmailit may be a mailbox problem. You may want to do and check all the mailbox properties compared to the user that works.

I assume your users are following the procedures in the link below

Interesting, I was able to delete the tasks out of the inbox of the 2007 user from OWA. I was also able to update and complete the task from the other computer running Outlook 2010. That's kind of weird that it seems to only affect the Outlook 2007 computer but I guess I'll try reinstalling office tomorrow.

Have the user use OWA for the responses for issues until you cna sort outlook. Can you try the sender on O2010? if that is okay, you might find the having the sender on O2010 might stop this.

The solution was to reinstall Office 2010 on the "bad" PC. Once it was reinstalled the Office 2007 user had no issues receiving and deleting the tasks sent back from the offending user.
