laptop

I have windows 7 professional(sp1) on sony vaio laptop

i see the cpu usage under performance tab-task manager shooting to 96% , hovering around that

under cpu usage history. lot of up and down shown

any way i can check that.

any application causing that, how can i check

In Task Manager, click on the Processes tab.  Click on "Show processes from all users" and allow the change if it asks.  This will show you all of the processes.
Click on the column labeled "CPU" and it will sort by that.  If the low values are at the top, click on it again and the high values will be on top.

This will show you what is using up so much CPU time.
