A workflow is a series of steps in a processus.

The most usual example is an ordering system, where the order is first received by a clerk, the customer must then be cleared for credit, the order needs to be sent to the warehouse, the wharehouse need to prepare it for shipping, then send the order to billing, and eventually the order will be marked as paid.

Many programs need to be able to treat data in such a "flow", and such applications might be a lot of work to build because the data is treated in many different time frames, at different locations,  by different people.

WWF is an API (a set of classes) that helps you in building that type of application by providing you with pre-defined objects designed to integrate into a workflow.
