Battery Backup Monitor Software for VMWare ESX V5

Hi,
I have a  VMWare ESX V5 server box that has Windows SBS2011 and Windows 2008 Server ... etc.
Is there a battery backup monitoring software that works with VMWare box?
Like in Windows Server box, you can buy APC Smart UPS with Powershute Monitoring software where you can set different parameters for automatic shutdown ... etc.
How do we do that on VMWare box?

Thanks.

Do I have to buy licensed version of ESX to install Powershute or just use free version of ESX?
Unfortunately vMA which is a requirement of the PowerChute Software, because it installs on the vMA appliance, vMA will not function with the free version of ESXi.

So you will need to purchase at least an Essentials License at approx $500.

@hanccocka
So it is going to cost $1,000 - $500 for Network Management Card and another $500 for ESX V5 licensed version to have UPS automatic shutdown functionality?

Is there a better solution out there?

How about Hyper V by Microsoft?
The PowerChute Network Server software relies on the Network Management card.

I do not know where you are purchasing from, in the UK they are approx 200 GBP.

In the UK - £180!

There is no other software for use with ESXi, unless you write scripts, yourself.

A Microsoft Server you can attach with USB/Serial port, and use the PowerChute software that comes with the UPS.

You are right. After further research, it looks like I can buy one for < $250.

Since I am going to buy Windows 2008 R2 Server Software anyway for this particular project and Hyper V comes with it, would you recommend Hyper V over VMWare?

My project entails installing SBS2011 as DC and Windows 2008 R2 Server as Terminal Server for up to 10 users who use WORD/EXCEL/Quickbooks.
I thought I set up VMWare on one physical server to install SBS2011 and Terminal Server since I have done it before.
But I hear that you can do that same with Hyper V and looks like I can save about $800 if I go with MS solution.
What is your take?
both are good Hypervisors.

If cost is the issue, Hyper-V, but I'm a big fan of VMware Enterprise Products.

Thanks for the information.
I will close this case and open another one asking for advise on Hyper V vs. VMWare.
