Possible drive failure. POST Error: 1786-Drive Array Recovery Needed

Hi everyone,

One of our HP citrix servers started to receive the following error, recorded following reboot:

POST Error: 1786-Drive Array Recovery Needed

The error appears in HP System Management Homepage for this server.  Following some research it appears that the error is related to a failed, or failing drive.

My concern is that there are only two drives in this server and both are displaying "healthy" blinking green lights.

I am assuming these drives are mirrored but i am not 100%.  How can i tell?  Also, how do i know which drive is failing?

thank you

Pressing F1 should initiate automatic rebuild. What's probably happened is one of the disks went offline (could have been weeks ago) and then when rebooted both disks are seen again but the controller knows one of them was previously down as it writes that in the metadata of the remaining disk.

If you can upload an Array Diagnostic Utility report **as attachment, not pasted in thread** we can check through it.

Hi,

Yo can run Checkdsk or Scandisk from command prompt using Admin privileges.or through disk management.

Thanks for the feedback.  I have several users working on this server at the moment.  As soon I able to log them off and onto a different citrix server I will attempt F1 automatic rebuild.

Looking at HP Insight Diagnostics I was able to run a Hardware Diagnosis on the Smart Array Drive and that seems to be clean.   I don't see a way to export the report.  Will let you kow how the rebuild and eventual checkdsk work out.  thank you

ADU isn't part of Insight Diagnostics, try  Start –> Programs ->HP System Tools->ADU (or  ACU if ADU isn't there, depends on versions)

Thanks - i was able to locate ADU and run a report.  See attached.  Didn't notice any thing out of wack.  Not sure how to perform the array rebuild you suggested.  thanks

Looks good to me too, if a drive did fall asleep it's rebuilt automatically which isn't in written in the ADU report. I don't see the need to do anything although it wouldn't hurt to reboot when time permits.

The insight log may have the event written to it, ADU report is a snapshot of the current (good) status.
